Mold and mold spores are ubiquitous. Mold (Fungi) can be found anywhere, indoors and outdoors. There are over 100,000 species of mold known today that can thrive even under the most extreme conditions on earthMold. In the United States alone, there are at least 1000 mold species commonly recognized.

Most common species of mold found in the United States are BASIDIOSMold PORES, CLADOSPORIUM, PENICILLIUM, ASPERGILLUS & STACHYBOTRYS type spores. Mold thrives when water or dampness are present and has a food source such as wood, drywall, insulation, furniture, carpet, paper, foods, etc. When these conditions are present in a property, it creates the potential for mold to thrive, ruin an infected area, object or HVAC system, create a musty smell and become a potential health Moldconcern. Mold can create health concerns if is it visible or undetected in a properties structural components and HVAC systems. Mold being present in a living or working environment can be potentially dangerous for young children, the elderly and individuals that have respiratory illnesses and those that are immuno-compromised.

Laboratory Analysis

Maryland Biodectection uses laboratories that create reports that will provide the identification of mold and bacteria present in the sample. In addition, the report will document the actual spore and coliform count that determine the level of fungal and microbial contamination present in the sample taken from a sampling location. Maryland Biodetection uses independent laboratories that are certified by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) which requires that a minimum of two Microbiologist examine each sample and agree on their analysis.
